PROJECT
Breezemount Perimeter Security division were awarded the project by Fox Contracts to supply and install an automatic sliding gate, at the delivery entrance to Lakeland Dairies in Monaghan, Ireland. With Doran Consulting being the consulting engineers on the project.
The entrance opens onto a busy carriageway, to allow large milk tankers manoeuvrability and easy access to the property, the delivery entrance is over 12 metres wide.
SOLUTION
Our design team helped specify a Zabag Kombi Cantilever Sliding gate from one of our long-standing partners, Davidson & Pearson. Fully customised in the client’s chosen RAL colour, the gate spans 12.5 metres wide and 2.4 metres high, with a serrated top edge to prevent unlawful entry.
The 12.5m cantilever sliding gate was so large that it was delivered in two parts and bolted together on site, and installed by Breezemount engineers. Complete with full height drive housing, GfA drive system, open/close key switch and emergency stop button.
Fully compliant with safety standards, the automatic gate is fitted with a failsafe safety system (six buffers in total). Which are fitted to the leading and trailing edges of the gate and to either side of the drive housing and guide post, to stop the gate on impact with an obstruction. There are also two sets of safety photocells to stop the gate attempting to close whilst interrupted.
Gate locking is achieved by the drive system and controlled from a local set of push buttons within the manned security hut.
RESULT
Sliding gate systems are a reliable means of securely controlling access to industrial and commercial properties. Unlike sliding gates with tracks that are permanently anchored to the ground, cantilevered sliding gates operate independently of roadway characteristics, cross slope and offering a long service life with minimum maintenance, unaffected by camber, ice, snow or debris.
