Victoria Lock Gates

The automation and refurbishment of Victoria locks gates were successfully completed in May 2007 by Breezemount Electrical & Hydraulic Ltd and Taylor & Fegan Ltd (engineering consultants). The project was one element of the Newry and Mourne Council, and Louth Joint Council Carlingford Lough project partnership.
The aim of the project was to improve key features of the Lough infrastructure which will be of benefit to the increasing numbers of visitors to the Carlingford area both by sea and land. The completion of this initiative marks the beginning of a long-term strategy of encouraging greater boating and marine activity on Carlingford Lough.
Today the Newry Ship Canal is currently used solely by leisure craft and as a means of accessing Newry City from the Irish Sea via Carlingford Lough and passing through the commercial shipping port of Warrenpoint. It is entered on its seaward approach via Victoria Lock, thus greatly improving accessibility to the canal. Breezemount was responsible for the design and installation of the hydraulic and electrical controls automation of the lock gates at Victoria Lock on the Newry Canal.
